Welcome to the IMPDET Cross-cultural Research Initiative

Welcome to WhatIAmLearning.com/drupaled - the web space for the IMPDET Cross-cultural Research Initiative (using the DrupalEd interface).

In order to get started, here is what you should do:

  1. First, if you haven't already done so, log in. (as you log in, make sure you join the Cross-cultural Research group)
  2. Once you have logged in, create your bio, in order to introduce yourself to the other team members...
    • In your bio include all the typical information (likes, dislikes, short description of yourself, where you are from, etc)
    • Add a picture
  3. Create your first a Blog post (or even a Podcast, if you would like) make sure to include answers to the following three questions:
    • In your opinion, what does it mean to trust?
    • Why do you want to be a part of this research team?
    • What are your personal goals for what you would like to have accomplished by the end of this research period (in December)?

We will experiment with the DrupalEd interface to see how we like it. If you have any questions or problems, do not hesitate to email me right away.

DrupalEd is nice because it can be used as an informal learning environment where all users have comparable permissions, or as a more hierarchical learning environment with students, teachers, classes, and working groups.

Some of the functionality within this site includes:

  • a personal workspace;
  • a group workspace;
  • the ability for site members to create informal working groups;
  • the ability to create formal class spaces;
  • podcasting;
  • wiki functionality;
  • personal and class blogs;
  • rss feeds for the entire site, individual courses, individual terms, and individual users;
  • personal image galleries;
  • personal file repositories;
  • the ability to create private, invitation-only groups;
  • social bookmarking, with searching within bookmark descriptions;
  • spam protection;
  • assignment calendars by course;
  • event calendars for site-wide events;
  • configurable user profiles with searchable text descriptions;
  • the ability to create lists of "friends" among site members;
  • the ability to find the missing sock in the dryer.

The goal of this site is to create a flexible framework that allows for users to set up a social learning environment (although it can also be used for a more traditional learning environment).
